Mascot explores national unity and patriotism through an allegorical performance of America's national emblem - the eagle. Set in an area full of rubble and costumed as an eagle, Paul performs the task of cleaning the environments debris and putting it into a trashcan suspended from a pulley to which she is also harnessed. The eagle's flight is dependent upon the shift of balance caused by weight of collected debris, however, as more waste is collected, it becomes harder to reach the ground and the task becomes more difficult. Cleaning starts to look like hoarding, and the trash receptacle becomes not only waste, but also a home, a nest, full of excess, greed obscuring the possibility for balance. The futility of the task points to impossibility of freedom and the irony of heroism in the pursuit of power and individualism.
