television, cake frosting/ decoration

Created in the aftermath of the bombings of the World Trade Center towers in NY, Sweet Nothings parodies the American consumption of media and questions the mediated experience of the world through broadcast television. This piece critiques expressions of patriotism, as well as the particular messages sent to women to show unity through the shopping and baking. In particular, it draws upon the parody published in The Onion "Not Knowing What Else To Do, Woman Bakes An American Flag Cake."
